In the post-Covid scenario, entrepreneurs will have to decide the best way forward for their organization and its employees as well as the kind of a workplace they would like to have. This decision will be based on whether the SME owners want their workers to continue with the current work-from-home policy or be asked to switch back to working from the office or be allowed the freedom to combine both remote and on-site work.
Since the three workplace models mentioned above have their own merits and demerits, it would be prudent for the business owner not to insist on a one-size-fits-all solution to resolve this dilemma. That is because all the employees working in the same organization may not be homogenous as they may hail from diverse backgrounds and are likely to nurture different likes, dislikes, priorities, preferences, and working styles.
For instance, some employees may want to continue working from home because their productivity has surged tremendously as they get to spend more time with their families. On the other hand, those residing in overcrowded flats may not like to work from home. They may prefer the entrenched office culture where there are frequent face-to-face interactions with their colleagues. Even those who are not tech-savvy and cannot adapt to digital technology will choose to work from the office.
Given the above facts, sagacious and employee-friendly business owners may split the entire work between home and office. Then they may allow self-motivated employees who can work efficiently and deliver the desired results without any supervision to work from remote locations. They may ask the remaining staff to invariably and punctually come to their offices, factories, or workplaces to attend to their duties. So, ultimately, we may see that most business enterprises will opt to have an efficient hybrid workplace that will combine the best of both worlds by offering maximum flexibility and independence while also allowing their employees to decide whether they want to work from home or office.
