HDFC Bank, India’s largest private sector bank, has announced that it is aiming to double its rural reach to two lakh villages in the country from the current one lakh villages and simultaneously expand its leadership in MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) banking by tapping more rural MSMEs in the next two years. To achieve this goal, the bank will hire 2,500 people, boost its virtual relationship management and digital outreach platforms and significantly increase its branch network, common service center partners, business correspondents, and business facilitators during the next six months. Meanwhile, HDFC Bank is currently the second-largest lender to the MSME segment in India.
