The microfinance sector in Cambodia has registered a 23.8% growth in loan portfolio to US$9.135 billion and a 20.1% increase to US$4.686 billion in total deposits until the third quarter of 2022 as compared to the same period of the previous year. Emphasizing that this performance has been accomplished despite the adverse effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, the Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA) said that the loans were disbursed to over 2 million client accounts and the deposits were mobilized from 2.66 million depositors. The country’s microfinance sector is expected to remain strong in 2023 despite external shocks and uncertain situations, CMA added.
