About 197,658 SMEs across Pakistan have suffered losses to the tune of US$5.3 billion because of the recent floods across the country, according to a preliminary report compiled by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA). Stating that the recent flood was one of the worst natural disasters in Pakistan’s history, the report said 90 districts out of 160 in Pakistan have been declared “calamity-hit”. Analysis of the 2022 floods have found that while a large number of SMEs have been totally destroyed, many others have suffered massive losses due to loss of customers and disruptions in supply chains, power supply and transport network.
