Urging Irish SMEs to consider the entire European Union as a single market while trading with other European nations, EU Commissioner Mairead McGuinness said doing so will enable them to capitalize on the many opportunities Europe presents. Thinking about trade with other EU nations as “cross-border” will prevent Irish SMEs from taking full advantage of the diverse opportunities that the EU single market offers to Irish SMEs, she reiterated. Emphasizing that Brexit had strengthened Ireland’s identity and the Irish economy had a more significant role in the EU, McGuinness said the overall outlook remains bright as Irish SMEs have very strong fundamentals.
