Global airlines are likely to post profits this year for the first time after 2019, fuelled by demand for flying and air travel from SMEs and financial service companies, according to American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT). After the pandemic-induced slump, SME executives traveling for meetings and trade shows are some of the first business travelers back on planes, and they have lately emerged as the fastest-growing segment within corporate travel. Furthermore, industry officials and various surveys have confirmed that in the business travel segment, the recovery by SMEs has far outpaced the recovery by multinationals.
