To encourage the development of transformative agricultural solutions across America, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has decided to invest US$21.6 million in scientific research for small businesses. Announcing this, USDA Chief Scientist Chavonda Jacobs-Young said that small businesses, primarily agricultural and rural enterprises, represent the entrepreneurial spirit and acumen that America was built upon, and they play a vital role in the American economy. Grant funding will enhance USDA’s efforts to rapidly scale innovation across the food supply chain by supporting 34 research projects that come up with innovative and disruptive solutions in areas ranging from food science and nutrition to natural resource conservations.
